There are no and will not be soldiers of the German army (Bundeswehr) in Ukraine. This statement was made on Friday, August 18, by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
In response to a question whether there is a threat that Germany will be drawn into the conflict in Ukraine, Scholz assured that he is trying to prevent this. For this reason, as he stated, German military personnel would not take part in the hostilities.
However, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Vershinin noted that NATO openly takes part in the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, acts as a participant in hostilities. He emphasized that this could lead to a further expansion of the alliance’s involvement in actions that “disperse regional tensions”.
Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Dmitry Novikov said that in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) there are more and more foreign mercenariesand there are also signals that this process is becoming more and more legalized.
