North Korea lifts fighter jets over US airspace violation

On August 17, a U.S. reconnaissance aircraft invaded North Korea’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) on the east coast, causing the North Korean military to take off the fighter. In response, North Korean fighter jets were launched into the air. The US plane left the area at about 7:15 (01:15 Moscow time). The North Korean military stressed that they would be ready to take “any action to protect the sovereignty of the republic” in case of possible provocations.
The statement clarified that the last time a US strategic reconnaissance aircraft had invaded North Korea’s EEZ was on July 28. Formerly CTAC reportedthat from July 2 to July 10, US reconnaissance aircraft violated the airspace over the exclusive economic zone of the DPRK more than 30 times.
On July 10, after another US invasion of the North Korean EEZ, the head of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Kim Yo-jong (sister of the country’s leader Kim Jong-un), said that the DPRK military had repeatedly warned Washington about the consequences of such actions. “The United States is ignoring our warnings, but it is not our fault if they do not understand the danger that threatens them,” said she, noting that the responsibility for the “possible tragedy” will lie with Washington.
