Sakhalin Sharks defeated HC SKA-Varyags in the second away game

On Sunday, January 15, the Sakhalin Sharks played the second match against the SKA-Varyags team in St. Petersburg. The island hockey players turned the game around in the third period and won a strong-willed victory with a score of 3:2, the press service of the hockey club reported.

The Sakhalin Sharks made a lot of changes to the roster of the relatively winning game against the SKA-Varyags team. Timofey Barsukov returned to the squad. The third pair of defenses has completely changed – instead of Kirill Sidnev and Alexander Kokarev, Sergey Dmitriev and Ilya Koval took the ice. Center forwards Ruslan Tyutyunnikov and Alexander Fesenko dropped to the second and fourth lines, and Dmitry Bogdanov missed the game.

SKA-Varyags replaced the goalkeeper – Gleb Saranchuk appeared at the gate. This change greatly affected the game of the team. The Petersburgers have become more reliable in defense and already in the first period they got themselves a serious advantage. They crossed the Sharks with a difference of 11:6 and scored twice – the hosts’ quick attack in the 15th minute ended with a goal by Vladislav Paray, and then the majority after a beautiful draw was used by Mark Slivchenko. In a minute and a half, the score became 2:0 in favor of the SKA-Varyags team.

Sakhalin lost their yesterday’s performance and could not find a way to break through the hosts’ goalkeeper. At the same time, the advantage of the Petersburgers in throws was almost twofold—31:16 after two periods. Goalkeeper Stanislav Pylaev played reliably, but his counterpart Gleb Saranchuk did not miss at all. Before the third period, the Sharks had to decide how they would be able to score a goal.

Sakhalin residents made a real pile on the gates of St. Petersburg – they created moment by moment and earned the majority. The most effective of the Sharks came out to convert it and after a minute and a half they scored a goal. Alexander Morozov and Pavel Kolotygin brought Timofey Barsukov to the throw, and he punched the goalkeeper with a powerful flick. A minute later, the same link staged another goal attack – Anton Danilov won the face-off, Alexander Morozov threw, and Timofey Barsukov gnawed the puck in front of the goal and sent it to the goal – 2: 2.

The pressure from the Far East did not subside. The “Sharks” felt their strength and earned two violations in a row – most of the “5×3” again came out to sell the most active “predators”. This time, Timofey Barsukov passed to Alexander Morozov, who found Anton Danilov to be an impeccable pass, left alone in front of an empty net and closed the rally with a one-timer. The island team took the lead for the first time in the game.

The Sakhalin Sharks took control of the game and did not let go of the opponents until the very end, but two minutes before the end they were outnumbered and allowed the SKA-Varyags to make the final assault. The four of Sakhalin fought off the attacks of the guests, but the biggest load fell on the shoulders of goalkeeper Stanislav Pylaev. He saved some incredibly dangerous shots and saved the team at a key moment. In total, the goalkeeper had 46 saves per game.
