Ex-journalist and former adviser to the head of Roscosmos Ivan Safronov, sentenced to 22 years of maximum security in a treason case, was returned to the colony. RIA Novosti writes about this, citing lawyer Dmitry Katchev.

According to him, Safronov is now in IK-7 in the village of Areiskoye, Emelyanovsky district, Krasnoyarsk Territory, where he had previously served his sentence.

On September 15, the ex-journalist was transported to the regional tuberculosis hospital to take tests. As a result, it turned out that Safronov was healthy, but the defendant spent another 10 days in the hospital. The lawyer and relatives assumed that the culprit could be transferred to another colony. Contrary to expectations, on September 26 he was returned to the same institution.

September 5, 2022 Moscow City Court admitted Safronov is guilty. As the FSB reported, from 2015 to 2019, the defendant collected secret data on the military-technical cooperation of the Russian Federation with partners belonging to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), as well as with countries in Africa, the Middle East and the Balkan Peninsula.

Safronov was arrested on July 7, 2020. The convict refused to enter into a plea deal.
