From January 1 to January 11, the Safe Internet League portal was subjected to nine DDoS attacks from the United States and Ukraine, said the director of the organization, Ekaterina Mizulina, transmits TASS.
“Attacks on the portal have been going on for the last year. However, after my statement that foreign agents should be deprived of Russian citizenship, some of the most powerful DDoS attacks in recent times have been recorded,” Mizulina said, reporting on the reflection of hacker attacks and the normal operation of the portal.
The maximum activity of the attackers was recorded on January 5, 2023. Mizulina was surprised by the fact that the hackers chose a portal “with tips for children and parents on online safety and other educational materials.” According to her, foreign hosting from the United States is mainly used for the purposes of the hacker attack. She also announced the involvement of Ukrainian hackers in this activity.
Because of the hacker attack, the Safe Internet League turned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mizulina added.
Last summer, Vedomosti, citing data from StormWall (specializes in DDoS protection) wrotethat the number of DDoS attacks on universities from June 10 to June 23, 2022 increased by 8 times compared to the same period in 2021. Most of the attacks were over the HTTP protocol, their power reached 300,000 requests per second, which is 15 times more the maximum power of attacks a year ago (20,000 requests per second), a company representative specified.
