In the second half of 2024, Russians will be able to check into hotels using biometric data without presenting documents. This was reported by the press service of the head of the government apparatus, Dmitry Grigorenko. According to the press service, a corresponding resolution has already been prepared by the government. Work is currently underway to introduce the service into hotel chains.
In a message that leads TASS, it is explained that you can register for the service yourself using a tablet or self-service terminal. It is expected that the biometric service will reduce the burden on hotel employees and solve the problem of queues at check-in counters.
“One glance will be enough to confirm your identity using biometrics. After that, all you have to do is get the key and go to your room. There is no need to enter additional information manually,” the press service said in a statement. You can check into hotels, motels, sanatoriums, holiday homes, boarding houses and tourist centers using this method.
The service is available to those who have registered verified biometrics in the Unified Biometric System (UBS). If the biometrics are confirmed in the EBS account, the user will be able to receive an electronic SIM card using the biometric data and open a bank account.
At the end of February, the Ministry of Economic Development proposed to expand the list of documents on the basis of which check-in at hotels is carried out. Along with a driver’s license, military ID and international passport, the department added the “State Services” mobile application and biometric data through EBS to the list of such documents. Then the vice-president of the Russian Hotel Association, Alexey Musakin, in a conversation with Vedomosti, said that he supported the initiative. According to him, the innovations will help hotel employees get rid of scandals with guests who have forgotten their passports.
