Russians were warned about a new trick of scammers during the sales season

During the sales season, scammers began to fake online shopping sites and lure potential victims there with huge discounts, said Artem Izbaenkov, director of cybersecurity at EdgeCenter.
In a conversation with RIA Novosti, he noted that attackers take advantage of the traditional activity of the population during sales and become more active during this period.
According to him, fake online store sites may be no different from the official ones, and the discounts on them can be unusually attractive. After “ordering” a product on this site, scammers receive personal data and bank card details. Fake mobile apps work in a similar way.
“They promise access to exclusive promotions and discounts from popular stores, but in reality they steal users’ personal data,” Izbaenkov said.
The traditional way to obtain personal data remains fake letters from well-known online stores, banks or online services, the expert said. Fraudsters also create fake accounts in instant messengers or social networks, gain trust and begin to “work” with their potential victims.
Izbaenkov recommended checking the authenticity of web resources and the security of the web connection – this is the display of a green padlock next to the site address.
He also warned to be careful when clicking links, and reminded that too low a price could be a “bait.”
