Fraudsters are currently looking for their victims, including on dating sites, so those using these resources need to be careful, said EdgeCenter Information Technology Director Sergei Lipov in an interview with Gazeta.Ru.
He recommended checking profiles on dating sites. According to him, an unrealistic photo on an avatar or a model appearance should raise suspicions. He recommended using Google’s image search function to see where else on the Internet there was such a photo.
The expert also recommended critically studying what the stranger says about himself and trying to find inconsistencies.
Lipov noted that as the relationship develops, scammers may offer to continue correspondence outside the dating site, ask for financial help or ask questions about the financial situation of a potential victim, and also send phishing links, clicking on which can lead to leakage of personal data.
The expert also noted that you should not share your bank card details, address and other personal information.
He also indicated that from time to time attackers will avoid meeting, arguing that they live in another country. Lipov also urged not to rush into a personal meeting, and if the decision is made, then choose a crowded place and inform friends and relatives about the upcoming meeting.
