The Russian Academy of Sciences said a magnetic storm will cover the Earth on January 23

According to the forecast of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute of Space Research and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a magnetic storm awaits the Earth on Tuesday, January 23. Peaks of the magnetic storm are expected at 06-00 and 12-00 Moscow time, but its level will be weak – G1 (maximum level – G5). Earlier this year, the strongest flare in the current solar cycle occurred, which received an X5.0 rating. This is almost twice as much as the previous X2.8 flare, which occurred in December 2023. The last time a stronger event than today was recorded was on September 10, 2017 – it was an X8.2 flare.
