Expert warns about sending fake delivery letters before New Year
New Year’s holidays are a time when cyber fraudsters become more active. One of the popular deception schemes during this period is sending out fake notifications from delivery services. Cybersecurity specialist Artem Izbaenkov told RIA Novosti about this.
The expert drew attention to the fact that attackers are trying to deceive people using email addresses that resemble the official emails of delivery services.
Izbaenkov also noted that cyber fraudsters often try to scare people and force them to follow a link or open an application. To do this, the letter states that the parcel will be returned to the return address if there is no immediate response to the message. In practice, delivery services make several attempts to deliver the package to the client before returning it to the point of departure.
The specialist also advised to carefully look at the address from which the delivery letter came. Cyber fraudsters are exposed to typos, altered letter order, and other errors.
Also, according to the expert, we must not forget that official delivery services will never ask clients to share confidential information or make a payment using the details specified in the letter.
