Russians urged not to worry about the lack of rice in the world

Chairman of the Board of the National Rice Union Igor Lobach in an interview with aif.ru said that the global shortage of rice should not worry buyers in Russia. He noted that only long-grain varieties are imported into the Russian Federation, which are not grown domestically, and the harvest of round-grain rice, in turn, is expected to be quite good.
Lobach stressed that this harvest will be enough not only for Russia, but also for its neighbors, namely Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Abkhazia and South Ossetia. At the same time, he clarified that the ban on the export of rice to all other countries in the Russian Federation is still in effect, and all this should help. As the Chairman of the Council of the National Rice Union noted, domestic prices will only grow following the rise in prices for fertilizers, fuels and lubricants and other resources, the cost of which is the cost of rice.
The expert also pointed out that before the coronavirus pandemic, Russia exported from 180 to 240 thousand tons of rice in different years, and deliveries went not only to the CIS, but also, for example, to Egypt and Italy. According to the union’s calculations, the export ban could be lifted with a crop of 1.1 million tons.
