Russians are proud of Putin and the military

The All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) on Russia Day (June 12) conducted a survey in which, in particular, they asked to name contemporaries whom the country can be proud of. Only 49% of respondents were able to answer the open question, 51% found it difficult to answer. Respondents could give up to three answers.
The first line was occupied by President Vladimir Putin, he was named by 19% of respondents. The second most popular answer (18%) did not suggest a specific person: these are servicemen / soldiers / defenders / those who are at war / the army / participants in a special operation.
Other politicians, sportsmen and scientists scored significantly less. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin won 5%, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Wagner PMC founder Yevgeny Prigozhin – 4% each. The same number of respondents reported that they are proud of athletes, and 3% – scientists.
The fact that people call the sphere of activity of objects of pride, and not specific names, is due to the fact that Russians do not know personalities, but they realized that these are honorary professions, says Alexei Makarkin, First Vice President of the Center for Political Technologies. “That is, the military, athletes, scientists, astronauts are socially approved individuals,” he says. There are practically no consensus figures among moral authorities, he notes.
