Russians are more interested in the recent past than in the present and future

As shown survey VTsIOM, the vast majority of Russians (90%) are interested in the history of Russia. At the same time, they are most interested in the recent past, namely the 20th century. Given the hypothetical possibility of time travel, just under a third of those surveyed would choose this era. In second place in popularity is the 19th century (16%). More ancient eras are of interest to a smaller number of respondents. 13% chose the current century or more distant future. According to experts, the 20th century attracts the generation aged 45+ more than the youth. In large cities, people are more often interested in the 19th century, which evokes beautiful associations: balls, beauties, lackeys, junkers.
When asked which historical figures they would like to meet and talk to, the majority chose Peter I (17%) and Stalin (15%). Pushkin and Lenin shared third place by a wide margin (7% each).
