Russians are getting rid of New Year’s gifts en masse: the most original ones have been named

Every year after the New Year holidays, surveys of Russians are conducted about the most unnecessary gifts. The top useless gifts include wine glasses, paintings, souvenirs with the symbols of the year, photo frames, socks, pajamas, calendars, and diaries. As a rule, these things are difficult to resell and awkward to re-gift.

But people are not shy about posting New Year’s gifts that can be saved on the Internet. Here smartphones, perfumes, cosmetics, and household appliances hold the palm.

We looked at what gifts Muscovites resell and for what reason.

New Year’s gifts began to be sold immediately after the chiming clock. People posted photos of jackets, sneakers, and hoodies on the Internet. The sellers gave one reason: “The size was completely wrong.”

Some things were given away as unnecessary. Among these are a silver jacket, a YSL men’s belt, a silk robe, and lace underwear. The owner of a sequined theatrical handbag admitted: “I have nowhere to go with it.”

In addition to clutches and lingerie, women put up kitchen utensils for sale. There are especially many electric kettles and spoon holders while cooking.

These are the reasons people give when selling.

Electric hob: “Not relevant.”

Blender: “I didn’t even open it or look.”

Kitchen knife set: “I have it.”

Waffle iron: “Not needed.”

Multicooker: “Have not been opened, not taken out, not used.”

Cordless Chopper and Cutting Board: “I’ll just have it sitting on the shelf.”

Electric Turkish coffee maker: “I’m used to cooking on gas.”

Machine for making cotton candy: “We used it a couple of times and abandoned it.”

Coffee machine: “I prefer tea.”

Electronics also did not suit the court.

People easily part with donated TVs: “I have two, I don’t need a third,” “I don’t watch TV.”

Office desks are given away for the reason: “The dimensions did not fit.” Gaming chairs do not fit into the interior.

Not everyone is happy with smart watches and phones either.

They write about Chinese smartphones: “I have my own normal one, there’s no need for it,” “I’m happy with the old one,” “I gave it to my child, I didn’t like it,” “My husband gave it to me for the New Year, but I need another one.”

iPhones given as gifts for the holidays are given away at bargain prices. For example, iPhone 15 Pro Max 1 TB can be purchased for 130 thousand rubles. The girl indicated the reason for the sale: financial difficulties. Another lady is ready to part with an iPhone 14 Plus 256 GB: “I don’t like the yellow color, there’s no way to return it.” The third is also not satisfied with the color: “My husband gave me blue for Christmas, I wanted a different one.” There are unexpected reasons: “I used it for a couple of days, I didn’t like it,” “iPhones were banned at work.”

Such comments are written by those who sell Apple watches: “The size turned out to be very large for my hand”, “I opened the box to show joy and not offend the person who gave it”, “Not mine”, “I urgently need money”, “I I don’t like those. I looked and put it back.”

The next category of useless gifts is cosmetics and perfumes.

Women comment: “The scent is not suitable at all.” “I don’t like sweet smells. I prefer sour”, “I use one type of cosmetics, problem skin. I’m afraid to switch to others,” “A young man gave me a self-tanner, I never use it,” “The lipstick didn’t match the color.”

Without regret, girls sell expensive hair dryers: “I need a hair straightener, not a hair dryer,” “Given by a young man, I don’t like the color.”

They write about facial cleansing kits and massagers: “I don’t understand this and don’t use it.”

Fitness bracelets are also among the unnecessary gifts: “I don’t think I’ll use them.”

Children turn out to be no less picky than their parents. Board games, mechanical keyboards, and cheap smartphones are up for sale. “My son is not interested” is indicated under the children’s quadcopter. The robot dog was not impressed: “The child didn’t like it.” The Russian analogue of LEGO also did not cause delight: “The son said that he only needed the original, so he didn’t even touch it.” And the parents didn’t guess with the microscope: “The child didn’t even want to open it.”

Men get rid of donated leather briefcases, routers, electric shavers, head massagers, electric toothbrushes, vinyl players, phone stands and socks with reindeer.

Some New Year’s gifts are completely bewildering. One girl was given a wig of blonde hair: “I don’t wear wigs.” Another is trying to sell a Christmas tree decoration from a fashion jewelry house at a price of 25 thousand rubles.

Strange New Year’s gifts include sleep headphones, a hot stamping press, a marble chip wolf figurine, a dry ball pit, a two-meter stuffed goose, a fingerprint scanner, a home weather station, and a 9kg weighted blanket. Under the orthopedic pillow is the seller’s comment: “My husband gave it to me for New Year, but I don’t understand this.” The woman described the pendant medal as follows: “Why did they give me this? I looked and put it back, it’s not relevant. Those who have medals will find it useful.”

Perhaps the most universal gift for any holiday is money. In this case, no one will definitely say: “I don’t need this.”
