Russian women began to undergo sterilization more often; in 2022, the number of such operations became a record for the last 16 years. Medvestnik writes about this with reference to Rosstat data.
In 2010, 12.5 thousand such operations were recorded among women aged 15 to 49 years. In 2022 – already 15 thousand. The record figure was recorded in 2006 – more than 17 thousand. Then the figure began to decline, and after 2014 it increased again annually.
In Russia, both men and women undergo sterilization for medical reasons. This operation can also be performed upon request for those who are over 35 years old and have two or more children.
