The Russian private space company SR Space for the first time tested the combustion chamber of the RD-1 oxygen-methane rocket engine of its own design. The designers made “an initial assessment of the thermally stressed state of the combustion chamber, the efficiency of the gas-dynamic profile and the rationality of the incorporated design and technological solutions.”

The tests took place at the stand of the Central Institute of Aviation Engine Engineering named after P.I. Baranova. The press service reports Interfax. According to SR Space, the tests make it possible to continue further development with funds from private investors. In the future, tests will be carried out on the injector head, oxygen and methane electric pump units, and the electrical multiple ignition system.

The RD-1 engine project was created for the Nebo geophysical rocket. Its development continues. The methane-liquid oxygen pair was chosen as fuel for the engine, since it is considered for engines of reusable rockets. The first launch is planned to take place at the end of the year.
