Scientists from St. Petersburg managed to grow watermelons at the Antarctic station “Vostok”
Polar scientists from the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, the Agrophysical Research Institute and the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences were able to grow watermelons at the Vostok Antarctic station. This is reported by the Telegram channel “Ice”.
It is specified that scientists managed to grow eight fruits with red and yellow pulp in specially equipped greenhouses.
Now experts plan to regularly grow not only berries, but also fresh vegetables and fruits. In particular, blackberries, strawberries and blueberries are in the plans of polar explorers.
