Russian Railways announced that it will prohibit conductors from disembarking pets from the train. It was decided to make changes to the company’s rules after the death of the cat Twix, whom the conductor dropped off from the carriage at a parking lot in Kirov.

The incident occurred on January 11. After undergoing surgery, the cat was traveling with his owner on the Ekaterinburg-Petersburg train. On the way, the animal got out of its carrier. The conductor decided that he was homeless and kicked him out of the carriage; it was 30 degrees outside at that time. The police refused to initiate a criminal case under Art. 330 (arbitrariness), without finding a crime. 5 thousand volunteers were involved in the search for the cat, and the owners promised a reward of 30 thousand rubles for its capture. He was found today, January 20, in the snow near the railway. Presumably, the animal died that night, one of the volunteers told the publication 78.ru.

Russian Railways expressed regret over the death of the cat. According to the company, the cause of the incident was “individual shortcomings in regulatory documents”, as well as “the lack of mutual responsibility of staff and passengers” and a coincidence of circumstances.

“Changes are being made to the documents relating to the transportation of pets on long-distance trains of JSC FPC. Conductors will be prohibited from disembarking animals from the train: in such situations, provision will be made for handing over the discovered animal to workers at stopping points, followed by calling representatives of animal protection organizations,” the statement says. press release RUSSIAN RAILWAYS.

The company added that its subsidiary JSC FPK is also considering an initiative to “establish long-term relationships with organizations to help stray animals in the regions of Russia, within the framework of which they can be provided with regular assistance.” Russian Railways did not provide the timing of approval of this initiative and other details.
