Russian Railways suspended the conductor who dropped off Twix the cat – Kommersant

The conductor who dropped off Twix the cat at a stop in Kirov was temporarily suspended from working with passenger trains, said Deputy General Director of Russian Railways Ivan Kolesnikov. According to him, the carrier intends to personalize the transportation of animals on trains.

The situation was discussed at a round table in the State Duma dedicated to the rules for transporting pets by public transport. “The conductor has been suspended from working with passengers… She is not currently working with passenger trains, temporarily for the period of the review,” said Mr. Kolesnikov (quoted by RIA Novosti).

He said that it is planned to “to some extent personalize” the transportation of pets on trains when issuing a ticket. Russian Railways expects that this will make it possible to “more specifically understand who we are transporting.” “At the moment this is not in our documents,” added Ivan Kolesnikov.

The incident with the cat Twix occurred on January 11. The pet was traveling with a relative of the owner on the Yekaterinburg-St. Petersburg train and got out of the carrier along the way. The conductor decided that he was homeless and threw him out of the carriage into the 30-degree frost. The police refused to initiate a criminal case under Art. 330 (arbitrariness), without finding a crime. The cat’s body was found on January 20 in the snow near the railway.

The conductor who released the cat later told Bazathat the system used by Russian Railways does not indicate what kind of animal the passenger is carrying – she only knew that there were people with carriers in the carriage.

Russian Railways named The cause of the incident was “lack of mutual responsibility of staff and passengers” and a combination of circumstances. The company has promised to prohibit conductors from removing pets from trains.
