Russian Arseniy Kotov, a professional photographer from Smolensk, said that the British publishing house FUEL, with which he has been cooperating for the third year, decided in 2023 not to pay him a fee for the book due to “reputational risks” and allegedly transferred these funds to the needs of Ukraine.
The photographer said that he offered FUEL, which publishes books on Soviet subjects, his project – the book “Soviet Cities”, dedicated to the architecture of the USSR.
In the first year, the book sold well, and Kotov received his fee. But there were problems with paying for the second book – the publishing house, having violated the terms of the contract, refused to pay.
“Under the pretext:” Because of you, we suffer losses here, we bear reputational risks, you spoil our reputation. “” Therefore, we will take all the money for ourselves, “said the photographer.
He also added that he tried to negotiate with the publisher on his own and through lawyers, but to no avail.
