Swimmer Girev asked World Aquatics to revoke his neutral status
Olympic silver medalist Ivan Girev asked the International Aquatics Federation (World Aquatics) to revoke his previously obtained neutral status.
Girev is now 23 years old. In October, he received neutral status to participate in competitions under the auspices of World Aquatics. The organization confirmed after speaking with its “independent integrity department” that “Mr. Girev has requested that his neutral independent athlete status be revoked.”
Previously, World Aquatics allowed swimmers from the Russian Federation and Belarus to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, the organization established admission criteria, allowing performance only in individual disciplines. The head of the All-Russian Swimming Federation, Vladimir Salnikov, called the criteria themselves humiliating. In this regard, the National Aquatics Federations have filed a complaint with World Aquatics.
