15-year-old Russian tennis player Alina Korneeva won the Australian Open tennis championship (Australian Open) among juniors. At the same time, for the first time in history, the final of this competition was purely Russian. Korneeva’s rival was Mirra Andreeva, who was born in Krasnoyarsk and now lives in Moscow.

In the first set, it came to a tie-break, where Andreeva turned out to be stronger. The next two with a score of 6:4 and 7:5 took Korneeva.

Muscovite Korneeva, before winning the Australian Open, ranked 553rd in the overall ranking of the Women’s Tennis Association. She is the owner of eight more titles at the junior level, she also won one ITF tournament.

Korneeva became the fourth Russian woman to win the junior Australian Open. Previously, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (2006, 2007), Ksenia Pervak (2009) and Elizaveta Kulichkova (2014) managed to do this. It is interesting that, for example, Maria Sharapova did not submit to this tournament at the junior level. In 2002, she lost in the final.
