Russian Foreign Ministry threatened with compensatory measures in response to the seizure of Russian assets in the EU

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that in Russia there are tangible assets of European companies and citizens, significantly exceeding the volume of frozen Russian resources abroad. At the briefing, Zakharova explained this by the fact that the EU countries have traditionally been major investors in the Russian economy, “deriving significant benefits from this for the development of their own business.”

A Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said she mentioned foreign assets in Russia “just to refresh the memory.”

According to Zakharova, Russia, in the event of the confiscation of the assets of the Russian Federation by the European Union, “is ready for any steps to protect national property, up to the application of equivalent compensatory measures.”
