European Fencing Confederation Excludes Russian and Belarusian Athletes

Russian and Belarusian athletes will not be able to participate in competitions under the auspices of the European Fencing Confederation. This decision was taken by the organization yesterday. The initiator of the vote on this issue was the President of the Fencing Federation of Ukraine Mikhail Ilyashev.

It is noted that athletes from Russia and Belarus will not be able to be members of the executive committee and commissions of the EFC. There is also no access to competitions for athletes under 23 years of age. At the same time, back in early March, the Congress of the International Fencing Federation allowed the athletes of the two countries to take part in competitions in a neutral status under the auspices of the organization.

However, Russian athletes were unable to obtain visas to Poland in order to enter the individual European Championships, which took place in Krakow in May. In this regard, the International Fencing Federation decided to withdraw the status of the European Championship from the tournament. As a result, the European Games were held there.
