Kursk doctors cut out a 26-kilogram tumor from a woman

Surgeons from the oncology center in Kursk performed an operation to remove a 26-kilogram tumor from the patient’s abdomen. The formation was on the border between benign and malignant, the press service of the regional government reported.

The peculiarity of the tumor was its gigantic size, which occupied the entire space of the abdominal cavity, intertwined with the internal organs. It was extremely important not to damage the outer capsule. Fortunately, they succeeded.

“According to the attending physician, it developed in about six months. The case is not unique, but quite rare,” the press service added.

The operation was performed by surgeon Anton Panchenko, who was the first to encounter a tumor of this size. His more experienced colleagues have already dealt with similar neoplasms.

The patient feels well and there is no risk of relapse. In this case, the patient should have contacted the doctors earlier, then the operation would have been much simpler, the press service noted.
