Russian divers will not compete at the Olympic Games in Paris due to discriminatory conditions. This was announced by the President of the Russian Diving Federation Stanislav Druzhinin in his Telegram-channel.
“Our divers cannot take part in the Olympics in a neutral status. The International Olympic Committee and the International Aquatics Federation World Aquatics have set discriminatory conditions that contradict the sporting principles of the Olympic movement. Therefore, we did not enter the World Championships in Doha, which will be held in February and is the last qualifying competition for the 2024 Olympics,” the message states.
According to Mr. Druzhinin, the Russian champions cannot go to the competition because they are members of organizations associated with law enforcement agencies, in particular Dynamo and CSKA. “There is no point in sending athletes of a different level. This is a violation of the sporting principle and a threat to their safety,” the president of the organization emphasized.
The FINA World Championships will take place in Doha from 2-18 February. The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
After the start of the SVO in Ukraine, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Russian athletes be barred from participating in international competitions. In 2023 the IOC recommended federations to allow Russians and Belarusians to compete if they maintain a neutral status. It is assumed that in this status they will be able to participate in the Olympics in 2024.
