Leakage of ammonia from the damaged Togliatti-Odessa pipeline continues. This was announced on Friday, June 23, by the head of the Russian military-civilian administration (VGA) of the Kharkiv region Vitaly Ganchev.
The official stressed on the TV channel “Russia 24” that local residents who find themselves in such a situation need help, so “we are now asking the military to evacuate people from there if necessary.”
The ammonia pipeline Tolyatti-Odessa was blown up on June 5. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said that the sabotage was carried out by a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group. According to Western media, the German Defense Ministry does not exclude the possibility of undermining the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline by the Ukrainian military.
The Kremlin, commenting on the incident, warned of the negative consequences of blowing up the ammonia pipeline, including for the future fate of the grain deal.
According to the director of the regional department of civil protection of Kharkiv, Ivan Sokol, the volume of ammonia leakage due to damage to the pipeline could be about 134 tons, and the toxic cloud could spread 2.5 kilometers. Ammonia, when released into the atmosphere from a liquefied state, turns into a gas and spreads a white haze low above the ground – it turns out something like alkali mist. Experts warn that it is poisonous.
