Russia will present a resolution on ICT in a UN General Assembly committee

Russia will present a draft resolution against the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for military purposes in the First Committee of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Vershinin.
“The document takes into account the aspirations of the international community for practical steps to strengthen security in the ICT sector, which should be discussed within the Working Group [открытого состава] in accordance with its mandate,” said the Deputy Foreign Minister (quote according to TASS).
Vershinin added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation is ready to continue discussing all initiatives to ban the use of ICT for military purposes in an open working group.
Earlier, the Deputy Foreign Minister called on the United States to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The UN General Assembly approved the document on September 24, 1996. The moratorium has not yet entered into force, since Egypt, Israel, Iran and China, along with the United States, have not ratified it, and India, North Korea and Pakistan have not signed it.
