The onset of the autumn thaw “will not stop the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” and the Ukrainian military can “reach it on foot,” Ukrainian General Alexander Tarnavsky said in an interview with CNN.
According to him, “the biggest breakthrough of Ukrainian troops is yet to come.” He acknowledged that weather could be a major obstacle during the offensive.
“But given how we are moving forward, mostly without equipment, I don’t think the weather will have much effect on the counteroffensive,” Tarnavsky said.
According to him, Ukrainian forces are moving in small groups, mostly on foot.
At the same time, General Tarnavsky admitted that for the “counteroffensive” to be successful, Ukrainian forces must at least reach the city of Tokmak.
“Tokmak is a minimum goal,” he said.
Answering a question about the difficulties with Western arms supplies to Ukraine, especially to the United States, Tarnavsky said that he respects their American partners’ views and thanked Ukraine’s Western allies for “their constant support.” He also promised that the Ukrainian Armed Forces would “treat with great caution” the equipment transferred from the West.
