Russia can withdraw from the ISS project in 2025, and in 2028, and in 2030, Roscosmos explained. Recent statements by officials about their intention to leave the project after 2024 should not be taken as an announcement of an imminent departure from the station. The exact date will be determined by the technical condition of the ISS.
“As for the statement about 2024, well, these are the peculiarities of the translation, but what was said about the withdrawal of Russia after 2024 means that there will be no drastic steps until 2024. And 2025 is after 2024, 2028 is also after 2024, and 2030. A specific decision on the exit will be made based on its technical condition, ”explained Sergei Krikalev, executive director of the state corporation for manned programs (quote from Interfax).
Head of the state corporation Yuri Borisov announced Russia’s withdrawal from the ISS project after 2024 on July 26. According to him, such a decision has already been made, which was also confirmed by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.
