Rosselkhonnadzor called for suspending the certification of some Ecuadorian bananas due to the humpback fly
Russia may be left without a significant part of Ecuadorian bananas. The reason is the increased detection of a carrier of dangerous infections in them – the humpback fly.
This dangerous pest infects many food products during long-term storage in warehouses. Among them, in addition to bananas, are potatoes, melons, ripe vegetables and fruits, mushrooms, cheese, flour, soybeans and dried fish.
The larvae of the pest lead to myiases in domestic animals and humans, settling in wounds on the skin, in the lungs, and on the mucous membrane of the eyes. in the intestines and organs of the genitourinary system. The humpback fly is also a carrier of cholera. The pest is spread by continuous unintentional transfer with contaminated products on board aircraft, ships or other vehicles.
In this regard, Rosselkhoznadzor offered suspend, as of February 5, the certification of bananas from five Ecuadorian exporters who committed the largest number of violations. If this does not help, the department promised to quickly move on to the next set of restrictive measures.
