Russia recognized as suitable for storage of all emissions of China for 100 years

Maxim Kanishchev, director of the Anselm Research Center, said that it would be possible to store in Russia from 1,000 to 4,000 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide, which would be enough to contain all of China’s emissions over 100 years.
The expert claims that Russia has the world’s largest potential for CO2 injection and storage. He pointed out that even the minimum specified storage volume of 1,000 gigatonnes would be enough, for example, to store all the carbon dioxide emitted on the planet for 30 years, or the emissions of China, the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, for 100 years.
Despite the fact that the world’s injection technology has been developed, and the transportation of liquefied carbon dioxide is simpler and more profitable than pipeline transportation of natural gas, the whole range of measures for capturing, transporting and pumping, according to Kanishchev, is “catastrophically unprofitable.”
The expert added that Russia’s prospect of becoming a CO2 storage hub runs the risk of becoming “economically unviable.”
