Russia may limit the export of red caviar

The Federal Agency for Fishery is considering the possibility of introducing restrictive measures on the export of red caviar, said on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF) head of department Ilya Shestakov.

“Our forecast is not very good, the catch forecast is quite low. We are now closely monitoring the volumes that are exported. It is quite possible that it will be necessary to introduce some kind of restrictive measures so that prices are low enough for red fish, and it is in abundance, ”said Shestakov (quote according to TASS).

In May, it became known that Russians could be banned from exporting Kamchatka red caviar weighing more than 10 kg from the territory of the region, made in a non-industrial way, in hand luggage or aircraft baggage. A draft federal law providing for such an experiment from the date of its entry into force until August 1, 2025 was prepared by a group of State Duma deputies.

According to the document, the ban will apply to salmon caviar without factory packaging. It should “contain a single sign of product circulation on the market of the Eurasian Economic Union and contact details of the manufacturer, individual entrepreneur or importer.”

The bill also provides for amendments to the Air Code. In particular, air carriers will have to include a ban on the export by one individual of more than 10 kg of red caviar per flight in the rules of air transportation. Flights to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky are carried out by “Aeroflot”, for June tickets are also sold by Ifly charter airline. Compliance with the ban, according to the document, will be monitored by the aviation security service of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Yelizovo International Airport during the pre-flight inspection of luggage and hand luggage.
