Russia may denounce the agreement with Ukraine on the Sea of ​​Azov

The Russian parliament will consider the issue of denouncing the agreement with Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the Sea of ​​Azov and the Kerch Strait, which was signed in 2003. This follows from the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin, published on portal legal information.

In a document published today, the head of state appointed Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin as his official representative in the consideration of this issue by both chambers of the Federal Assembly.

Kyiv denounced this treaty on February 24, about this informed Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak. Russia and Ukraine signed an agreement in 2003, guided by “relations of friendship and cooperation” and the provisions of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership (Kyiv came out from it in December 2018 – Vedomosti).

IN document It is noted that the Sea of ​​Azov and the Kerch Strait are historically inland waters of the Russian Federation and Ukraine, and merchant and military vessels of both countries enjoy freedom of navigation. Vessels from third countries may enter the Sea of ​​Azov and pass through the Kerch Strait if they are heading to or returning from a Russian or Ukrainian port.

The Rada also voted on February 24 to withdraw from the Black Sea naval group Blackseafor (Bulgaria, Georgia, Russia, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine).

In December last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking with human rights activists about the special operation, declaredthat its significant result for Russia is the accession to the country of new territories.

“The Sea of ​​Azov has become the inland sea of ​​Russia. Peter I was still struggling to reach the Sea of ​​Azov. And the most important thing is the people who live in these territories,” he said then.

At the end of May 2022, Ukraine denounced an agreement to perpetuate the memory of the courage and heroism of the peoples of the CIS in the Great Patriotic War, as well as an agreement to avoid double taxation of income and property and prevent tax evasion.
