Russia is currently working on the issue, which will allow establishing a visa-free regime with almost all countries of the Persian Gulf, including Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. About this in a conversation with RIA Novosti informed Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.
“Visa-free travel is being worked out with almost all countries of the Persian Gulf — Bahrain, Saudi Arabia. Our relations are developing very well, and business delegations travel. I think we can work together,” he said.
Currently, Russia has an agreement on a visa-free regime with the United Arab Emirates. This agreement was concluded in 2018. Since February 1, 2017, the UAE has significantly simplified the procedure for issuing 30-day visas to Russians by introducing a de facto visa-free regime. Now Russian citizens receive an Emirati entry visa right at the border and for free. Prior to this, a visa cost about $100 and was issued for at least a week.
In 2017, the procedure for issuing visas to Russians was simplified and in Qatar. From that moment, Russian citizens will be able to obtain a visa on arrival, which will allow them to stay in the country for 30 days. At the same time, visas can be extended for a month. The agreement on the abolition of visas was signed in 2019, thanks to which Russians will be able to stay in the country for 90 days.
