Russia asked to hold a UN Security Council meeting after US and British strikes on Yemen
Russia has asked for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with the strikes carried out by the US and UK on targets in Yemen.
As the press service of the Russian permanent mission reported on the telegram channel, the meeting will take place on January 12. As a result of the strikes, radar systems, storage and launch sites for drones, ballistic and cruise missiles were hit. In response to the Western coalition strikes, the Yemeni armed forces began mass launching surface-to-surface missiles.
US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed the strikes, calling them defensive and a direct response to Houthi attacks on cargo ships in the Red Sea. Russia previously condemned Houthi attacks on civilian ships, but refrained from adopting a UN Security Council resolution demanding an end to attacks in the Red Sea.
