Russia has developed a coronavirus vaccine with a different composition due to a new strain

Scientists have developed a vaccine with a new antigenic composition after the emergence of a new strain of coronavirus, said the director of the Gamaleya Center of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Gintsburg. According to him, “Sputnik V” against the new version of “omicron” works worse than against earlier strains.

According to him, now scientists are waiting for the Ministry of Health to allow replacing the old antigenic composition of the vaccine with a new one. He did not specify when exactly this would happen. “The existing Sputnik vaccine works worse against the new Omicron compared to previous strains,” said Mr. Gunzburg “Interfax”.

Alexander Gunzburg added that the emergence of a new strain “deltacron” suggests that there are still ways to change the coronavirus based on recombination. He also believes that in the future we can expect the emergence of new strains of coronavirus, which will have to be fought.

Earlier, the A. A. Smorodintsev Research Institute of Influenza announced that a new strain of coronavirus, Deltacrone, had appeared in Russia. Experts emphasize that such a combination is very rare, since the delta strain has practically disappeared.
