“A unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine found itself in a difficult situation”

The calm before the storm – this is how a number of military experts described the situation in the combat zone in Ukraine. At the front, for the third day now, there has been an operational pause, which is diluted only by local battles.

The day before, the destruction of the dam of the Karachun reservoir affected the plans of the Ukrainian army. According to the military expert of MK, editor of the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine Alexei Leonkov, the unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which managed to cross the Ingulets River before the strikes, was “in a difficult situation.”

Thus, the attack on Kherson by the Ukrainian army for an indefinite time, it seems, will have to be forgotten.

Reinforcements of the allied forces were transferred to Oskol and Krasny Liman, and in all the battles of the last days the enemy is defeated. In Zaporozhye, the Ukrainian army tried to carry out reconnaissance in force and sank to the bottom.

In addition, the Armed Forces of Ukraine suffered a setback in the Kherson direction – on Wednesday evening, due to the destruction of the dam at the Karachunovsky reservoir in Krivoy Rog, the Ingulets River overflowed its banks.

According to a military expert, editor of the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine Alexei Leonkov, the flood cut off the Ukrainian unit and now its fate is unenviable:

– The effect of the fact that the dam was damaged, of course, is short-lived. The dam held back some of the water that has now overflowed the Ingulets River and created an artificial flood. But at the same time, the effect of this flood was obvious: the pontoon crossings that the Ukrainian army built in order to organize a bridgehead on the other side of the river were demolished. And since the pontoons have been demolished, no crossing is now possible. When it will be possible is unclear. Whether the Ukrainian army still has pontoons is also unclear. In any case, a unit that crossed the Ingulets River and ended up in a limited bridgehead, let’s say, can get into a very difficult situation.

According to other military experts, the flood of the river, although short-lived, gives our units “a unique chance to put an end to the offensive on the Andreevsky bridgehead” and close the issue of the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the southern direction.

According to a military expert, the Russian army is moving to a new tactic:

– Indeed, tactics are changing, we are switching to mobile defense tactics, when a certain unit achieves tactical success in certain areas and thus the line of contact begins to shift back. Somewhere it happens faster, somewhere slower. But just standing on the defensive, apparently, was not the best idea. Therefore, plans will change, fire support will change, – said Alexei Leonkov.

Military expert, reserve colonel Mikhail Khodarenok also noted that there is relative calm in the special operation zone:

– It is obvious that now in the course of hostilities there is a certain pause. Because it is impossible to attack continuously – at a certain point, the stocked ammunition, fuel and lubricants are running out, fatigue of the personnel is observed, it is necessary to give him the opportunity to rest, make up for losses., – said the expert.

According to him, an active offensive from both sides can begin at any time – it is very difficult to predict this:

– It all depends on the scale of the operation, on the scale of hostilities. It takes 20-25 days to prepare an operational-strategic operation and carry it out. This is provided that everything will be done “running”. Less time is needed for an operational-tactical level operation.

At the same time, the expert noted that the strike could be where it is least expected.

– The movement of various troops is a very delicate matter, and it is premature to draw any conclusions and I would not. In the course of a special military operation, the parties are trying to hide their intentions, taking all sorts of operational camouflage measures. Sometimes what seems extraordinarily logical to us (for example, you can hear: “cut the group”, “press it to the sea”, “surround, destroy”) is so obvious that it cannot be true and this should be taken with criticism.
