Poland demanded the return of seven pieces of art from the Pushkin Museum

The Polish Foreign Ministry sent a note to the Russian side demanding the return of seven paintings that are stored in the vaults of the Pushkin Museum im. Pushkin, said the Russian ambassador to the republic, Sergei Andreev.

“Yes, on Monday, the 12th, we really received a note from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 14 brochures with justification are attached to it, demanding the return of seven paintings that are allegedly in the storerooms of the Pushkin Museum,” the diplomat noted (quote according to RIA Novosti).

According to him, there is a law in Russia according to which cultural values ​​transferred to the territory of the USSR as part of compensation for damage caused by aggressor countries during the war are not subject to extradition.

Minister of Culture of the Republic Petr Glinsky the day before declaredthat the items in question were “stolen” during World War II. As explained in the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, this type of property belongs to a “special category”, since they were moved to the territory of the USSR in the implementation of compensatory restitution for the actions of Nazi Germany and its allies during the Great Patriotic War.
