British general: NATO is not ready to fight with Russia

British General Richard Shirreff, who for three years served as deputy supreme commander of NATO forces in Europe, is confident that at the moment the bloc is not ready for the worst. This refers to a possible scenario for the development of events in Ukraine, when NATO forces will have to fight with the Russian Federation.
“By the worst-case scenario, I mean NATO at war with Russia,” the general said bluntly in an interview with Newsweek. Shirreff believes that NATO could be directly involved in the conflict if the fighting in Ukraine spills over the border.
“Preparing for the worst-case scenario means, first of all, mobilizing reserves,” he says. “It means restoring the lost capacity thrown away during years of defense spending cuts.”
If necessary, in his opinion, the industry should be prepared for the production of artillery shells, anti-tank weapons and anti-aircraft missiles. “Not only to replace the stocks transferred to Ukraine, but to increase our own, because we are devastated,” he stressed.
At the same time, Shirreff called on the member countries of the North Atlantic bloc to “take off their gloves” and “increase” the supply of weapons to Kyiv.
