RUSADA approved nine requests for the use of prohibited drugs in February

The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) received 23 requests from athletes in February for the use of prohibited substances and methods of treatment for therapeutic purposes. Nine athletes received permits, the organization’s press service told TASS.
In 2023, RUSADA received 117 relevant requests, of which 69 were approved. In January 2024, RUSADA received 9 requests, five were approved. If approved, the athlete is given permission (therapeutic exemption) to use drugs containing substances prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for a certain period of time.
In December 2020, the Court of Arbitration for Sport stripped RUSADA of its compliance status with the World Anti-Doping Code. Restrictions were introduced until December 16, 2022, but WADA warnedthat they will not automatically resume the work of RUSADA. In May 2023, the WADA executive committee confirmed that there are no plans to restore the rights of the Russian agency, but it retains the obligation to pay fees.
