Ten million rubles for two – this is the fine that the creator of the once largest online store of licensed software in Russia, Felix Muchnik, and his former employee, Ivan Savelyev, will have to pay. Recently, by decision of the Butyrsky District Court of the capital, they were convicted of fraud on an especially large scale.
The problems of the company, founded in 2001 and since then holding a leading position in the online trading market for a long time, became clear in 2018. Softkey’s profits have been declining for 4 years now, which management attributed to sanctions imposed against Russia. Many IT giants left the Russian market, and the company could not fulfill its obligations under many already paid contracts. That’s when the lawsuits alleging fraud began.
As the press service of the court told MK, the lion’s share of this fine, 7 million rubles, will be paid by Felix Muchnik, the founder and former head of the Softkey company. At the start of the process, by November last year, 259 lawsuits had been filed against him; by the time it was completed, their number had decreased to 83, which was quite enough for representatives of the online platform to be forced to pay millions in fines. They will also have to comply with the claims.
