The Rosselkhoznadzor introduces a regime of enhanced radiological control of fish and seafood imported from Japan. This was announced on Thursday, August 24, in the press service of the department.
They also did not rule out the possibility of limiting the supply of fish products from Japan in case of exceeding the permissible levels of radionuclides.
These measures are being taken against the background of the beginning of the discharge of radioactive water from the Japanese nuclear power plant Fukushima-1 into the ocean. Rospotrebnadzor has already assured that each batch of fish products from Japan is checked for radiation safety, all the necessary equipment for this is available in the country.
The chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Natural Resources, Alexander Zakondyrin, noted that fears were due to the possible accumulation of “atomic” tritium in products, especially in fish. At the same time, he noted that tritium belongs to the alkaline group, which is characterized by uniform distribution and rapid excretion from the body. He also stressed that radioactive water will not enter the Sea of Japanwhich washes the eastern shores of Primorye.
