Six Russian fishing vessels have been detained at Norwegian shipyards. This was announced by the head of the Federal Agency for Fishery Ilya Shestakov during a working meeting with the Governor of the Murmansk Region Andrey Chibis.
“The restrictions that the Norwegians have introduced are illegal for the repair of our fishing vessels. They just now keep even six fishing vessels in their factories. We hope that reason will prevail, they will repair and still let go. Otherwise, it’s just a seizure of property,” he said (cit. according to TASS).
In this regard, he proposed organizing ship repair on the territory of Russia, despite the fact that it is more convenient to carry it out where fishing is carried out. Shestakov also noted that by mid-July it is necessary to submit specific proposals for the modernization of the Murmansk Sea Fishing Port (MMRP) to the presidential administration.
The Murmansk port was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Federal Agency for Fishery in February 2023 after the thirteenth Arbitration Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the court in the Murmansk region, which in October 2022 decided to nationalize the port. The decision was made on the basis of a lawsuit filed by the Federal Antimonopoly Service, which decided that a group of persons, including a foreign investor, had established control over the MMRP, despite the strategic status of the port. In 2015, it was privatized, 100% of its shares were acquired by the Kupets company at auction. The cost of the transaction was 1.026 billion rubles.
The port is of strategic importance for the whole of Russia, since it is the only non-freezing port in the Arctic zone of the country and operates all year round.
