The awards are going to start being awarded in 2026.
The first prize in Russia in the field of geodesy and cartography plans to establish Rosreestr. The department proposes to name the prizes in honor of Feodosius Nikolaevich Krasovsky, an astronomer-geodesist, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, who, in the course of his research, determined the dimensions of the earth’s ellipsoid, which made it possible to draw up more accurate maps, including for navigation systems.
The Government Prize named after Krasovsky is proposed to be awarded for significant contributions to the development of the field of geodesy and cartography, the development and creation of innovative equipment, and outstanding achievements in performing geodetic and cartographic work in the interests of the defense and security of Russia.
It is planned to present awards to citizens of the Russian Federation once every five years starting in 2026. There will be a total of 10 awards for achievements in the field of geodesy and cartography, each worth a million rubles. In addition to money, the laureates will be awarded badges of honor and certificates.
