Rospotrebnadzor will strengthen control over fish products and water in connection with the decision of the Japanese authorities to begin discharging radioactive water from the emergency Fukushima nuclear power plant into the world ocean, said the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova.
Popova made a corresponding statement in a conversation with RIA Novosti. She noted that her agency already controls products, water and sediment where possible.
She also said that the Rospotrebnadzor laboratory in Vladivostok is currently being upgraded, which will allow all measurements to be carried out immediately, without waiting for the results of the examination from Moscow.
“We, for our part, have strengthened control and will continue to strengthen it,” she said.
The discharge of radioactive water from the damaged Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant began on August 24. The operator claims to purify radioactive water and then dilute it with seawater.
