Rospotrebnadzor: the increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in the Russian Federation is not associated with the holiday season

The increase in the number of new cases of coronavirus in Russia is associated with a change in circulating subvariants of the virus, and not with the summer holiday season. This was announced by the Deputy Director of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor Natalya Pshenichnaya.
“I note that today’s growth is more related to the change in circulating sub-variants of the virus, and not to the summer holiday season. After all, in summer people spend more time outdoors, where the risks of infection are not so high, ”said Natalia Pshenichnaya (quoted by TASS).
The seasonality of the incidence of coronavirus “has been traced for a long time,” Ms. Pshenichnaya said. According to her, since the end of 2020, the main peaks of the incidence occur in the autumn-winter months. However, at the moment, it is not necessary to introduce coronavirus restrictions in Russia, a representative of Rospotrebnadzor said.
The collective immunity of Russians to COVID-19 fell to 7.4% as of August 12. At the beginning of the summer it was at the level of 31%. Last week, coronavirus infection rates were exceeded in 12 regions. August 11 in Russia revealed six cases of the new hybrid COVID-19 – “deltacron”.
