Rospotrebnadzor said that Russia has all the necessary resources to successfully repel biological threats, including “disease X.” The department emphasized that “loud” statements about a new disease may have economic motives.
“Russia, in turn, has all the necessary potential to counter biological threats of any nature, including “disease X,” and to respond to them in a timely and adequate manner,” a department representative told reporters (quoted by Interfax).
It is noted that the inclusion of “Disease X” on the agenda of the World Economic Forum, as well as “a financially interested group of participants, including large pharmaceutical companies, shows that the dialogue of the session will revolve around increasing investment.”
The representative of the Russian department emphasized that preparedness for possible pandemics is being discussed at various platforms and forums. “However, the participation in the discussion of world experts and epidemiological scientists directly involved in assessing the risks of new pandemics and preparedness measures for them is not provided,” said a representative of Rospotrebnadzor.
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland stated session on “disease X”. Among the speakers are the director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhan Ghebreyesus, the chairman of the board of the pharmaceutical company Astrazeneca Michel Desmarais and the Minister of Health of Brazil Nizia Trinidadi. The meeting on January 17 will discuss strengthening health care to counter the potential threat.
“Disease X” is a theoretical unknown pathogen capable of causing an epidemic or pandemic. WHO has included “disease X” in the list of the most dangerous diseases that require urgent development of drugs when the disease is detected. WHO estimates that the disease could outnumber COVID-19 by 20%.
