Information about a man who arrived at the capital’s Sheremetyevo airport from Sri Lanka and was allegedly infected with dengue fever does not correspond to reality. The press service of Rospotrebnadzor reported this on Friday, December 1.
The department clarified that the passenger was indeed sick, but not with a dangerous tropical infection, but with the flu.
Upon arrival in Moscow, the man was examined by doctors, specialists carried out all the necessary laboratory tests – they confirmed the diagnosis.
Earlier there were reports that a passenger on a flight flying from Sri Lanka to Sheremetyevo was found to have signs of highly contagious dengue fever. According to unconfirmed reports, the man became ill during the flight, so he separated from other passengers. Upon arrival, doctors entered the plane, but people were not allowed out for about an hour.
Resident of Sri Lanka talked about the tropical dengue virus, aka bone crush fever. This disease is most dangerous for young children and pregnant women. To reduce the risk of infection, it is important to monitor the humidity level: do not keep barrels of water near the house, seal the garbage tightly and take it to a special area away from your home.
