New member of the HRC Ionov spoke about plans to protect the rights of Russians abroad

Alexander Ionov, who joined the updated compound The Presidential Human Rights Council (HRC) announced that it will work on the penitentiary system, as well as the protection of Russians abroad. Among other things, he noted the “dangerous trend” of arresting Russian citizens abroad.

“A lot of topics come to mind that I would like to tackle, from issues of the penitentiary system to issues of protecting the legitimate interests and rights of Russian citizens abroad, because we know that this is a fairly serious problem. Plus, the third direction, which is also very close to me, is working with the population in new territories,” Mr. Ionov told RIA Novosti.

He added that for ten years he had been dealing with cases of arrests of Russians abroad. “Of course, this is a very dangerous trend, which the Americans are very actively developing together with their allies in many countries,” noted Alexander Ionov.

Mr. Ionov said that as part of the activities of the charitable foundation, he often visits the annexed regions. “Accordingly, we communicate there with people who live on the front line. There are a number of issues that we need to resolve with our newly acquired Russian citizens and build civil society institutions there and protect rights and interests,” he said.

Alexander Ionov is the leader of the Anti-Globalization Movement of Russia, which calls its goal to support countries and peoples “opposing the dictates of a unipolar world.” He is also a former member of the Moscow Public Monitoring Commission. In July 2022, the United States imposed sanctions against Mr. Ionov and his movement.
